Below you will find a communique from the City of Geneva, dated October 
1st, 2003, and titled : "Unacceptable appointment for the WSIS : the 
City of Geneva may not go to Tunis".

Let me remind you that the petition from the HR caucus has now been 
signed by 32 organizations as for now . Signatures are still collected, 
those from the HR caucus members are most welcome.

Nomination inacceptable au Sommet mondial sur la société de 
l'information : la Ville de Genève pourrait renoncer à se rendre à Tunis
A la suite de la prise de position du Conseil administratif relative à 
la nomination du Général Habib Hammar à la tête du Comité 
d'organisation de la session de Tunis du Sommet mondial sur la société 
de l'information, l'ambassadeur de Tunisie a demandé à être reçu par le 
Maire de Genève.

   A cette occasion, le Maire a précisé que si cette nomination jugée 
inacceptable par le Conseil administratif était confirmée et qu'une 
personnalité attachée au respect des droits de l'homme en Tunisie 
n'était pas désignée pour remplacer le Genéral Hammar, la Ville de 
Genève pourrait renoncer à se rendre à Tunis en 2005. En outre, la 
Ville de Genève se réserve dans ce cas-là la possibilité de lancer un 
appel à d'autres villes afin qu'elles adoptent la même position.
