Front Line Parallel event on NGO in a Box

Friends,

Front Line: The International Foundation for the Protection of Human Rights Defenders, invites you to the presentation of the recently released project - NGO in a Box - Security Edition.

Tuesday 15th November
Time:  9.00 (English), 10.00 (interpretation in French)
Location:   Salle Mehdia  (70 places)

The security and reliability of data is a major concern to civil society groups that gather, exchange and disseminate information. This is especially relevant for high-risk groups (independent media, human rights monitors and activists, anti-corruption groups, etc.) who can become targets of surveillance, computer theft, equipment damage or confiscation.

This project, which has been developed together with the Tactical Technology Collective, is a collation of software tools and knowledge that aims to strengthen the security of the user in the digital world. The Secure-Box will increase your awareness and provide solutions to the risks you face when operating with computers and on the Internet. The project is released in English, French, Spanish, Arabic and Russian. It includes:
i) a number of programs that will help you resolve and strengthen the privacy and reliability of your information and communications. The software is free to use and has been chosen and reviewed for effectiveness and usability by both technical and non-technical people;
ii) a manual that will walk you step-by-step through the installation and use of every program;
iii) two additional projects presenting a collection of free opensource software and a human rights bulletin system.

There will be a session starting at 9.00 with a presentation in English. This will be repeated at 10.00 with interpretation into French.

Each session will include a short introduction followed by demonstrations of the Secure-Box and then a question and answer session where different user scenarios (relating to problems of internet surveillance, censorship and computer security) will be presented and resolved by using the software and concepts provided in the Secure-Box.
