RE: Human Rights Caucus nomination of Shirin Ebadi for WSIS opening ceremony

Dear Mr. Utsumi,

Dear Mr. Utsumi,

The WSIS Civil Society Human Rights Caucus has learnt your decision to nominate Ms. Shirin Ebadi as civil society speaker for the WSIS opening ceremony in Tunis.

The WSIS Civil Society Human Rights Caucus has received a huge number of supports from civil society constituencies to the proposal it made. 20 WSIS CS Thematic and Regional Caucuses, 35 Worldwide and Regional CS Organizations and Coalitions, and 42 National CS Organizations and Coalitions have been able to discuss this proposal and to make their decision within only few days. You will find attached this final list of supports, as of October 20, 2005.

On behalf of the WSIS Civil Society Human Rights Caucus and of the whole list of supporters, I would like to express our satisfaction to see, through the decision you made, that genuine civil society voices have been heard.

Sincerely,

Meryem Marzouki
Human Rights Caucus Co-chair
